Cat's Library — Terms of Service

English (original) · 한국어

Effective date: August 19, 2026
Last updated: August 19, 2026

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Lo-Fi Labs Inc. ("Lo-Fi Labs", "we", "us") governing your use of the Cat's Library mobile application, its related websites, and any services we provide through them (together, the "Service").

Please read these Terms together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information. The Privacy Policy is a separate document and is not part of these Terms, but it is incorporated by reference.

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Some parts of the Service require an additional, separate agreement before you may use them. In particular, Section 9 (Library Features) applies only to users who have expressly accepted the Library Rules inside the app. If you have not accepted them, the Library features are not available to you and Section 9 does not apply to your account.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, or older if your country requires it (for example, 14 years old in the Republic of Korea). If you are a minor under the law of your country, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.

You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under any applicable law, or if we have previously terminated your account for a violation of these Terms.

3. Definitions

4. Your Account

You are responsible for the activity that happens under your Account and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. Notify us at contact@catslibrary.com if you believe your Account has been used without your permission.

You may start using the Service with an anonymous (guest) account, which is tied to your device installation. An anonymous account is not recoverable: if you delete the app, change devices, or clear the app's data, that account and the records in it may be permanently lost. To keep your records, link the account to a sign-in provider. The providers available to you depend on your region — Apple and Google everywhere, and Kakao in the Republic of Korea. Library Features are not available to anonymous accounts.

You may hold one Account at a time. Creating additional accounts to evade a block, a report, or an enforcement action under Section 9 is a violation of these Terms.

5. The Service

The Service lets you record and track your reading: your bookshelf, reading time, progress, ratings, reviews, and passages you transcribe from the books you read.

Nothing you record is visible to anyone else until you accept the Library Rules. Until then your bookshelf, reading records, reading streak, quotes, reviews, and profile are private, and no other user can see them. When you accept the Library Rules, those items start visible to everyone, except your quotes, which are shared with friends only to protect copyright; the consent screen tells you where to change this, and you can change it again at any time, item by item, in the app's visibility settings.

Uninstalling the app changes none of this: your Account and its records stay on our servers, and anything you have made visible stays visible. Deleting your Account deletes your records, so they are no longer shown to other users (see Section 13). What another user has already seen, saved, or copied is outside our control.

Notifications. The app can send you reminders and other notifications. You control them in the app's settings and in your device's system settings.

Changes to the Service. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service. Where a change materially reduces a paid feature you have already purchased, or where we discontinue the Service, we will give you reasonable advance notice — at least 30 days where practicable — and, where required by law, a remedy.

6. Advertising

Unless you have an active subscription, the Service shows advertising, including banner advertising and optional rewarded advertising you may choose to watch in exchange for Coins or other in-app benefits.

Advertisements are supplied by third-party advertising networks. We do not control and are not responsible for the content of an advertisement or for anything an advertiser offers. Your dealings with an advertiser are between you and them.

Rewarded advertising is always optional. If an ad fails to load or cannot be completed, we may offer an alternative or none at all; a failed ad does not entitle you to the reward.

How advertising uses your information is described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Subscriptions and Purchases

Where you buy. All purchases in the Service — subscriptions, one-time purchases, and Coins — are processed by the app store you installed the app from (the Apple App Store or Google Play). We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Subscriptions. Subscriptions to "Pro Book Butler" are offered on a monthly or annual basis, and as a one-time lifetime purchase where available. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, charged to your app store account, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your app store account settings — not in the app.

Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, the app store will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before the new price applies to your renewal.

Refunds. Refunds are handled by the app store under its own policy. We cannot issue store refunds directly, but if something has gone wrong, contact us at contact@catslibrary.com and we will help where we can. This does not affect any statutory right of withdrawal or refund you have under the law of your country, including, for users in the Republic of Korea, the rights described in Appendix C.

Free trials and promotions. Where offered, free trials and promotional codes are subject to the conditions shown at the time of the offer. Unless stated otherwise, a free trial converts into a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel first.

8. Coins and Virtual Items

The Service includes Coins, an in-app currency, and virtual items purchased with Coins (cat accessories, furniture, themes, and similar). Coins may be bought, granted as part of a purchase or promotion, or earned by checking in daily or watching a rewarded advertisement.

9. Library Features

This section applies only if you have expressly accepted the Library Rules in the app. If you have not, Library Features are unavailable to your Account, nothing you record is shown to other users, and this section does not apply to you.

9.1 What becomes visible

Library Features let you make parts of Your Content visible to other users. Visibility is controlled by you, per category (shelf, reading records, reading streak, quotes, reviews, profile), together with a separate setting for whether other users can see what you are reading at this moment. When you accept the Library Rules, those categories start visible to everyone, except your quotes, which are shared with friends only to protect copyright. The consent screen tells you where to change this, and you can change any of it at any time, item by item, in the app's visibility settings — including making everything private again. Some content categories cannot be made fully public by design — for example, transcribed quotes can be shared with friends only, because they are passages from someone else's work (see Section 10).

Your nickname and @handle are shown to other users wherever your content or your profile appears, including in the readers list of a book. Choose a handle that you are comfortable being seen publicly; do not use a handle that reveals information about you that you want to keep private.

9.2 Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on the Service.

You must not create, upload, post, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that:

  1. is sexually explicit, pornographic, or sexually suggestive involving minors in any way;
  2. depicts, promotes, or glorifies violence, self-harm, suicide, or the abuse of people or animals;
  3. is hateful, harassing, bullying, threatening, or that demeans or attacks a person or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic;
  4. is defamatory, deliberately false, or intended to deceive;
  5. discloses another person's private or identifying information without their consent;
  6. is spam, advertising, a solicitation, a scam, or a link to malware;
  7. impersonates any person or organisation, including Lo-Fi Labs, its staff, or the operators of the Service;
  8. infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights; or
  9. is otherwise unlawful, or promotes illegal activity.

You must also not harass, stalk, threaten, or repeatedly contact another user who does not want to hear from you, and you must not use Library Features to circumvent a block another user has placed on you.

9.3 Reporting, blocking, and moderation

We provide, inside the app:

When you report content, it is hidden from you immediately and permanently. We review reports and act on them as promptly as reasonably practicable, and ordinarily within 24 hours of receipt.

We are not obliged to monitor the Service, but we may review, remove, or restrict access to any content, and suspend or terminate any Account, at our discretion, where we believe these Terms have been violated. Depending on the severity and on any repetition, our response may include removing content, limiting an Account's ability to make content visible to others, suspending the Account, or terminating it permanently. We may act without prior notice where the content or conduct is severe or unlawful.

If we terminate your Account under this section, you may not create a new Account to continue using the Service.

9.4 Withdrawing from Library Features

You may set every visibility category back to private at any time in the app's visibility settings, which stops other users from seeing your content going forward. Content another user has already seen, saved, or copied is outside our control.

10. Your Content and Copyright

You keep your rights. You own Your Content. These Terms do not transfer any ownership of it to us.

The licence you give us. To operate the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and transmit Your Content, and — only to the extent you have made it visible to other users under Section 9 — to display it to those users. This licence exists so that we can run the Service, and it ends when you delete the content or your Account, except for copies we must retain under Section 13 or by law.

Passages you transcribe from books. The Service lets you record quotes from the books you read. Those passages are the work of their authors and publishers, not yours. You are responsible for making sure your use of them is a permitted quotation or otherwise lawful in your country. This is why quotes cannot be made fully public in the Service. We will remove transcribed passages on the request of a rights holder.

Cover images and uploads. If you upload a cover image or other file, you confirm you have the right to do so.

Copyright complaints. If you believe content in the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, contact contact@catslibrary.com with a description of the work, where the content appears in the Service, your contact details, and a statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them. We will review and remove infringing content. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you may write to the same address to ask us to review the decision, and we will restore the content if the complaint was not justified.

Backups. We take reasonable care with Your Content, but we do not guarantee it against loss. Use the app's export feature to keep your own copy.

11. Acceptable Use

You must not:

12. Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including the app, its design, artwork, characters, illustrations, sounds, text, and software, is owned by Lo-Fi Labs or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. Nothing here grants you any other right to our trademarks or content.

13. Termination and Account Deletion

You. You may stop using the Service at any time, and you may delete your Account from within the app (Account → Delete Account) or by writing to contact@catslibrary.com. Deleting your Account deletes your records according to our Privacy Policy. Some records are retained where the law requires it — for example, transaction records that Korean consumer-protection law requires us to keep — and reports you have filed are retained in a form that no longer identifies you, so that the moderation decisions based on them remain valid.

Deleting your Account does not cancel a subscription bought through an app store. Cancel it in your app store account settings before deleting your Account, or you may continue to be charged.

Unused Coins and virtual items are forfeited on deletion (Section 8).

Us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to provide the Service to you would expose us or other users to harm or legal risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

Sections 8 (final bullet), 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 survive termination.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that defects will be corrected, or that Your Content will not be lost.

Book information (titles, authors, covers, page counts, and similar metadata) comes in part from third-party sources and may be inaccurate or incomplete.

We do not endorse and are not responsible for content created by other users. You interact with other users at your own risk.

Nothing in this section limits any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under the law of your country of residence.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lo-Fi Labs and its directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) KRW 100,000.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply to you only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lo-Fi Labs from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) brought by a third party and arising out of Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms. This does not apply where the claim arises from our own breach or negligence, and it does not apply to consumers to the extent the law of their country prohibits it.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought before the courts of the Republic of Korea having jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act.

If you are a consumer resident outside the Republic of Korea, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at contact@catslibrary.com; most issues can be resolved quickly that way. Users in the Republic of Korea may also use the dispute-resolution bodies listed in Appendix C.

18. General Provisions

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of the Terms remain in full force.

No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Assignment. You may not transfer or assign these Terms or your Account. We may transfer these Terms to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our business; where we do, we will give you notice, and your rights under these Terms will not be reduced.

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with any additional terms shown to you for a specific feature or offer, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service, and replace any earlier agreement about it.

Notices. We may give you notice through the app, by email to the address associated with your Account, or by posting on catslibrary.com. You give us notice at contact@catslibrary.com.

Force majeure. We are not liable for a failure or delay in providing the Service caused by something outside our reasonable control, including a network or hosting failure, an app store outage, a natural disaster, or an act of government.

Third parties. Except as stated in Appendix A, no one other than you and us has any right to enforce these Terms.

Language. These Terms are written in English. Translations are provided for convenience; if there is a conflict, the English version governs, except where the mandatory law of your country requires otherwise.

20. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and give notice in the app or on our website at least 7 days before the change takes effect, or at least 30 days before where the change is material or disadvantageous to you.

If we materially change Section 9 (Library Features), we will say so clearly in that notice and keep the updated Library Rules readable in the app, so that you can see what changed before it takes effect. We will not ask you to accept them again. If you do not want the change, you may set your visibility back to private, stop using Library Features, or delete your Account under Section 13 before the effective date.

Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using the Service and delete your Account under Section 13.

Appendix A — Terms Required for Apple App Store Users

These provisions apply if you obtained the app from the Apple App Store. They are required by Apple and are in addition to the Terms above; if they conflict with the Terms above, these provisions govern only as between you, us, and Apple.

  1. Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and Lo-Fi Labs Inc. only, and not with Apple. Lo-Fi Labs Inc., not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
  2. Scope of licence. The licence granted to you for the app is a non-transferable licence to use the app on any Apple-branded product that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
  3. Maintenance and support. Lo-Fi Labs Inc. is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the app. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services.
  4. Warranty. Lo-Fi Labs Inc. is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
  5. Product claims. Lo-Fi Labs Inc., not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
  6. Intellectual property rights. In the event of any third-party claim that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Lo-Fi Labs Inc., not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
  7. Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Developer name and address. Lo-Fi Labs Inc., 5F, 200 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Questions, complaints, and claims: contact@catslibrary.com.
  9. Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
  10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of them.

Appendix B — Terms for Google Play Users

If you obtained the app from Google Play, your purchases and subscriptions are governed by the Google Play Terms of Service in addition to these Terms, and Google is not a party to these Terms. Google is not responsible for the app or its content.

Appendix C — Additional Terms for Users in the Republic of Korea

These provisions apply if you reside in the Republic of Korea, and prevail over the Terms above to the extent they conflict.

  1. Withdrawal from a purchase. Under the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, you may withdraw from a purchase within 7 days of the transaction. For digital content that has already been used or supplied in full, withdrawal may be restricted; where that restriction applies, we indicate it at the point of purchase. Because purchases are processed by the app store, a withdrawal is carried out through the app store's refund process, and we will assist you where we can.
  2. Purchases by minors. A purchase made by a minor without the consent of a parent or legal guardian may be cancelled by the minor or the guardian under the Korean Civil Act. Contact us at contact@catslibrary.com and we will assist with the app store's cancellation process.
  3. Notice of changes. We give notice of a change to these Terms at least 7 days before it takes effect, and at least 30 days before where the change is material or disadvantageous to you. Where a disadvantageous change applies, we will state clearly that you may refuse it and terminate your Account, and if you do not express refusal before the effective date, you are deemed to have accepted it.
  4. Dispute resolution bodies. In addition to the courts, you may bring a dispute to the Korea Consumer Agency / Consumer Dispute Settlement Commission (https://www.kca.go.kr), the Content Dispute Resolution Committee (https://www.kcdrc.kr), or the Korea Communications Commission's personal-information dispute mediation process, as applicable.
  5. Language. A Korean translation of these Terms is available at https://catslibrary.com/terms/ko. Where the mandatory consumer law of the Republic of Korea requires the Korean text to prevail, it prevails.
